Project 4: Moving Image with Space, Place and Location.

This brief is a little different from the others, instead of taking one individual image i will taking a moving image (film) of a place in Bath that has specific significance to me. We started to think about a place that is important to me, and being in a new city i realised that it would be somewhere where i feel comfortable and at home. 'Picnic in the Park' is a little cafe on the upper bristol road into Bath, and i walk past the cafe everytime i walk up to uni. Its got lovely wooden floors and writing on the walls and they serve the best full english breakfast i have ever had.

The moving image would be inspired by the stop start imagery used in the opening sequence of the hit tv series, 'Dexter'. The final piece would be edited to show a range of viewpoints of the cafe and why it is significant to me as an individual. We needed to add some music to it so we added a calm song by Jack Johnson, hope you like the final edit below!

Galaxies & Glitter (Part 2)

So after the 'projected galaxies' idea I decided to shoot my models using a blank black canvas and then photoshop the images of galaxies onto the portrait. Facepaints were used to symbolise different qualities that each model represented; innocence, affection and individuality. The results were very pleasing & I started to think of a new and exciting project.

Galaxies & Glitter (Part 1)

Ok, so this is a very similar concept to those which inspired me on the previous post, but I really just wanted to test this out. I found it was quite simple to accomplish & effective, however the lines from the projector ruined it slightly. These photos have not been manipulated to edit them out. I added the mask to symbolise the different nationalities, and to not single any particular nationality of model.

India

I was so unbelievably lucky to be able to visit Kerala, in Southern India for 10 days, the culturally diverse and beautiful scenery gave me a chance to experiment with my new toy: 550D Canon with an 18-135mm lens. Before leaving, I did some research into the "Do's & Donts" of photography in India, but everyone I met there seemed thrilled to have their picture taken. New experiences such as the 'The Kathakali dance', where a man, covered in fantastic face paint, used facial expressions to tell the story of the gods, and while staying on a house boat for a few nights (with hundreds of bugs), I was given the chance to experiment with landscape shots and different light settings. Once home, I looked for other sites in India where previous photographers have visited and captured some unbelievable images... I think next time I’ll visit Northern India.

Dubai Veterinary Clinic - Highway

When visiting Dubai, my friend needed some shots of 'Highway' a dog that needed adopting after he was treated for a car accident. Although I had not had any previous experience working with animals (other than some playful shots of my cat) I found that dogs are actually quite easy & lot more fun to shoot than humans, although its hard to concentrate when they look at you with those endearing eyes.

'Gloria Cycles' play in Brighton

I stayed in Brighton with my sister for a few weeks, and caught the last couple of days of summer before going back home to. Sitting in the sun and listening to 'Gloria Cycles' final gig was a brilliant end to Summer!
